About Us

Adrian D Garcia, PsyD, began Deluna Counseling and Art Therapy in 2020 at the beginning of COVID to create a safe space where he could provide counseling in a way that was inspiring, creative, and most importantly, inclusive to marginalized groups. Therapy which includes opening up regarding our innermost worries is no easy task, so he intended to reduce as many barriers as possible. The solo private practice clinic was successful, but he soon learned that one clinician was not enough as the wait-list began to exceed what one clinician could manage. We teamed up with a great group of clinicians to begin expanding our services in the hope of being able to meet the needs of a wider group of people. We wanted to build a community where marginalized people felt their voices mattered, and where they could have access.

With Deluna Counseling and Art Therapy our mission is to create a space that centers the importance of mental health, advocacy, social justice, and change. We believe that the world can be a more creative, loving, and compassionate space with the right emotional support.

Outdoor therapy and experiences in nature have been shown to have clinical benefits for depression and anxiety. There has also been studies suggesting that introducing nature into clinical work can deepen the positive impacts of counseling for some individuals. Special considerations are taken regarding confidentiality, including avoiding highly populated areas and checking-in around the client's need for privacy. Talk to your clinician about the ability to meet together and go for a hike outdoors.

Art therapy is a method of approaching counseling that prioritizes visual and kinesthetic processing. In other words art therapists tend to utilize more than just words when approaching a person's emotional life, including visual images, movement, sounds, and symbols. This approach can be particularly helpful if someone is not ready to discuss things out loud, or if talking through their experiences is not yielding the results they had hoped for. An example of this could be someone feeling overwhelmed when attempting to talk about a past trauma, so the counseling session would focus instead on creating a drawing that represented both the trauma and the emotional impact it had on them. It can also be used in conjunction with processing, as in having a soothing art activity that provides comfort and sensory engagement while talking through something scary or anxiety provoking. This allows for a person's nervous system to both discuss the issue, while receiving a sense of comfort and safety which allows for growth in addressing their anxiety. The uses and styles of art therapy vary as much as the therapists who utilize this approach, so be sure to ask your clinician what is available and how it might benefit you in future sessions.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is a highly tailored and personal experience that caters to the unique needs of each couple. It encompasses a wide range of approaches and techniques, all aimed at improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening the bond between partners. The therapist acts as a guide and provides a safe space for open and honest discussions, allowing the couple to gain insights, heal wounds, and rekindle their connection.

Deluna Counseling and Art Therapy is a diverse counseling center based in three cities. We specialize in working with LGBTQIA and BIPOC individuals, providing art and talk therapy to meet their mental health needs.
